Eastern Indiana Experience

Westwood Park is about 45 minutes due east of downtown Indianapolis.  It is in the final stages of completion with an anticipated finish of early Spring 2005. Right now the trail is a 9.5 mile loop around the lake with the last mile using existing horse trail. Starting in January of 2005, the Hoosier Mountain Bike Association will complete the loop to keep the bike trail completely separate from the horse trail.  In the meantime, USE CAUTION WHEN USING SHARED USE TRAIL SECTIONS.

Westwood is a fun and challenging loop with spectacular views of the lake along the ride. While there are no significant climbs, there is a deceptive amount of climbing. The complete loop has approximately 1000 feet of climbing gained in 25 to 30 foot chunks. on an aerobic scale of 1-10 Westwood comes in at about 7. On a technical scale Westwood is about a 5. Beginners may get a bit frustrated with the constant up and down and gear changing but would be able to ride virtually the entire loop. While there is some great flow to this loop, you will get a work out.
